San Cassiano
Italy
Municipality of San Cassiano has never been affiliated with other European municipalities and has never launched European intercultural projects.
Regarding the civic / democratic participation of citizens in cultural programs it must be said that often all citizens are actively and proactively involved in these programs, with events and cultural events of great importance, just think of the event focara and sagra di San Giuseppe and early summer performances.
The same can be said of the involvement of all citizens in the process of participatory planning that involved the urban and territorial regeneration and the creation of open urban laboratories and laboratories boiling spirits that allowed us together with other municipalities to realize the multifunctional agricultural park of Paduli, new model of protection and enhancement of the agricultural landscape with the opportunity for diversification of agricultural activity. All this allowed us to represent Italy at the award of the landscape of Europe in 2015.
Description of the Municipality:
The Municipality of San Cassiano is a small medieval town of just over 2000 inhabitants located in the center of Salento about 40 km from Lecce, about 40 km from Santa Maria di Leuca, 20 km from Otranto and 30 km from Gallipoli.
San Cassiano in its origins was a municipality with an economy based essentially on agricultural activity, then developed the industrial and manufacturing sector and the tertiary sector.
Today San Cassiano is one of the municipalities of the province of Lecce with the highest per capita income.
At socio-cultural level is one of the most active municipalities in the area thanks to the liveliness, resourcefulness and creativity of many citizens.
Although San Cassiano obtained its municipal autonomy only 43 years ago, thanks to the resourcefulness and to the foresight of the Local Administrations, today it is a perfectly organized center under the urban and territorial aspect, citizens take advantage of all public services and presents a area of state-of-the-art production facilities with companies operating in a variety of sectors that have allowed the degree of unemployment to be reduced to physiological levels.
In recent years we have also taken steps to the recovery and enhancement of architectural assets making them usable not only to citizens but also to the inhabitants of San Cassiano, because the municipality of San Cassiano is part of inter-municipal aggregations such as the GAL, the SAC and precisely the agricultural park multifunctional of paduli that deal with the management of these assets and contribute to the development of local tourism.

Gharb
Malta
Gharb has a population of approximately 1300. Gharb Local Council is a municipality that was setup by the Department of Local Government in 1993. GH LC considers town twinning as an important vehicle to bring different communities together. The municipality is twinned with the municipalities of Gerano and Quadrelle where together we organise various projects.
Our main responsibility is to take care of the natural heritage and cultural aspect of our village. Although we are a small locality with limited resources, the Local Council is engaged actively in promoting Gharb as a rural destination since it is home to museums, panoramic sea views and country walks.
Gharb houses also a craft centre where local artisans display their work. GH LC has also sought to promote local tradititon whilst encouraging citizens to take a more active role within society and it is for this reason that I organises several events to continue to cultivate its focus on active citizenship.
